A Wisconsin state trooper was severely hurt after falling from a bridge deck while responding to a pursuit near Eau Claire.
Wisconsin State Patrol said Trooper Brad Ritger was being treated at an area hospital Monday night. The agency said his injuries are “severe.”
State Patrol said Ritger was deploying a tire deflation device on the bridge deck just before 5 a.m. where Interstate 94 crosses 490th Avenue west of Eau Claire. The agency said he moved into a position of cover when he fell over the bridge deck onto 490th Avenue.
First responders performed life-saving measures, including CPR.
The suspect was later arrested after hitting the tire deflation devices. That stretch of I-94 was closed for several hours Monday morning.
The incident is under investigation.
Ritger has been a Wisconsin State Patrol trooper for five years and is currently serving in Dunn County.
