A year ago, Jesper Wallstedt entered training camp focused on one goal: making the Minnesota Wild’s roster.
Now, after a standout rookie season that included playoff success and a growing reputation as one of the NHL’s rising goaltenders, the expectations surrounding Wallstedt have changed.
The 23-year-old netminder became a key contributor to the Wild’s success last season, winning 10 of his first 13 starts after earning a spot on the NHL roster. He carried that momentum into the postseason, stopping 27 shots in his playoff debut before delivering a 43-save performance in a pivotal Game 4 victory over the Dallas Stars in the first round.
“It was obviously huge for my confidence and also playing those games knowing I can be at that level,” Wallstedt said. “It was the most fun hockey I’ve played in.”
