So Minnesota: Twin Towers steel beam part of Rockville’s 9/11 Memorial

Friday marks the 25th anniversary of one of the darkest days in American history.

The Sept. 11, 2001, attacks in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Shanksville, Pennsylvania, killed nearly 3,000 people.

The town of Rockville, Minnesota, honors the lives lost that day by having a 9/11 Veterans Memorial that includes a steel beam from the Twin Towers.

Rosie Steil wrote to the New York and New Jersey Port Authority requesting a piece of the Twin Towers to honor firefighters and police officers who died that day.
