Otter Tail County SWAT standoff ends in man’s death after shooting

A man died Thursday after a standoff with deputies in Otter Tail County.

The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded around 5:47 p.m. to a home on Twin Lake Road in rural Battle Lake. Authorities said a caller went to check on a relative and found the door barricaded.

According to the sheriff’s office, a man came to the door with a shotgun, pointed it at the caller and accused the caller of trespassing.

Then, authorities said the man struck the caller with the butt of the shotgun and forced the person into a vehicle before returning to the home and barricading himself inside.

The Otter Tail County SWAT Team responded and tried to negotiate with the man. During the standoff, authorities said the man fired at an armored SWAT vehicle.
