The man already sentenced federally for the deadly attacks on Minnesota lawmakers last year has filed a flurry of motions ahead of his next state court hearing.

Among the motions and documents filed Friday, Vance Boelter’s attorney:

  • Asks for a change of venue, saying “Twin Cities jury pools have surely been tainted” by media coverage.
  • Calls his $5 million bail “wholly unreasonable.”
  • Says he intends to claim the state prosecution is “double jeopardy” since he’s already been convicted federally.
  • Notifies the judge that Boelter intends to claim the attacks were reasonable, justifiable and “necessary by Defendant to resist and prevent offenses while Defendant was effecting a lawful arrest.”
