Minneapolis residents are weighing what city services matter most as leaders debate a tax hike and cuts across city government.

The city faces a proposed double-digit tax hike and citywide cuts to balance its budget. At the center of that debate, leaders on the Board of Estimate and Taxation point to years of police overspending.

“I think people are seeing the overspending, they’re seeing the continued struggles with homelessness and other smaller quality of life issues, and they’re recognizing that this overspending is not getting us results on those issues,” Minneapolis Board of Estimate and Taxation Vice President Eric Bernstein said during an interview last week.
