Several Democratic candidates running in northern Minnesota legislative races this November have publicly broken with Gov. Walz over his executive order on mining.
MINNESOTA, USA — With four months left in his final term, Gov. Tim Walz issued one of the most significant executive orders of his tenure last week by restricting nonferrous mining near the Boundary Waters.
The governor believes statewide public opinion is on his side.
"This was the will of the people of Minnesota," Walz said at a news conference. "Overwhelmingly, this is an incredibly popular piece of executive order. I think it's long overdue."
