When the Minnesota Vikings began exploring girls flag football opportunities a few years ago, the organization saw something simple: growing demand from girls who wanted the chance to play football.
Since then, that commitment has evolved into one of the fastest-growing high school sports initiatives in Minnesota, with the Vikings investing in everything from varsity programs and coaching education to youth development pipelines. Their ultimate goal is clear: helping girls flag football become a fully sanctioned varsity sport under the Minnesota State High School League.
“We want to see more girls playing,” said Joe Rush, the Vikings’ Director of Youth and High School Football. “We want to see more girls in schools offering the opportunity, and then ultimately for this to be a sanctioned high school varsity sport living under the Minnesota State High School League.”
