UMPD takes down one Flock camera due to community concerns

Nine Flock cameras remain in the university campus and surrounding area.

MINNEAPOLIS — The University of Minnesota Police Department (UMPD) took down a Flock camera in Cedar-Riverside after neighbors expressed concerns.

The University's public relations team stated that UMPD uses Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) technology to recover stolen vehicles, locate missing people and aid violent crime investigations.

The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension reports the department has ten ALPR devices across the university campus and surrounding areas. UMPD has elected not to share the location of the cameras.
