Sounds of Blackness releases new song to get out the vote
A legendary Twin Cities group is using its music to encourage people to head to the polls.
Sounds of Blackness has released a new song called “Get Off Ya Hands and Vote” ahead of the midterm elections.
The three-time Grammy-winning group got its start more than five decades ago and has built a career around music centered on hope, resilience and civil rights
Music Director Gary Hines says the message behind the new song is simple: Every vote matters.
“Every single vote counts. It’s crucial and critical, so that’s why we titled the song ‘Get Off Ya Hands and Vote,’” Hines said.
The new song continues the group’s long tradition of using music to address social issues and encourage people to get involved in their communities.
