St. Paul mayor releases supplemental budget that would prevent library, rec center cuts

Proposed budget tweaks released Thursday by St. Paul Mayor Kaohly Her would prevent the closing of one of the city’s libraries and restore cuts to recreation centers.

Her’s initial 2027 budget proposal would have closed the Dayton’s Bluff Library and reduced hours at some non-hub rec centers. The supplemental budget reverses those changes and includes an additional $99,500 for the City Attorney’s Office to continue enforcing the city’s separation ordinance.

Moving city elections to even years and increased utility franchise fees provided enough savings and additional revenue to cover the $574,290 in budget revisions without further raising taxes, the mayor’s office said.
