St. Paul council members are moving to end city and county contracts for Flock license plate readers, setting up a debate over safety and surveillance.
The St. Paul City Council released its meeting agenda on Thursday evening for next week’s meeting. It included a resolution from City Council President Rebecca Noecker to end contracts with Flock Safety. Noecker was unavailable for comment or an interview on Thursday, but she is expected to address the council Wednesday and call on the city of St. Paul and Ramsey County to end their contracts.
St. Paul leaders also weighed in, including Mayor Kaohly Her.
“There is a very real distrust in the community over Flock. I hear it every day and it significantly challenges our goal of enhancing safety and justice in our communities. The City is actively assessing our technology landscape with an eye towards building trust,” said in a statement.
