Shakopee couple sentenced to 97 months for roles in Feeding Our Future fraud scheme

SHAKOPEE, Minn. — A Shakopee couple has been sentenced to a combined 97 months in prison for their roles in the $250 million Feeding Our Future fraud scheme, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Minnesota.

Mekfira Hussein, 42, was sentenced to 57 months in prison, while her husband, Abduljabar Hussein, 45, was sentenced to 40 months. Both pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

According to federal prosecutors, the Husseins submitted fraudulent claims for meals through a federally funded child nutrition program during the COVID-19 pandemic. Pros...
