Potential Farmington police station expansion could cost residents about $12 a month

The city of Farmington is looking at a major expansion of its police station.

When the current station opened in 2002, there were 12 staff members. Now Farmington Police Chief Nate Siem says they have 32, and a lack of extra space is impacting his ability to bring on key positions like a crime analyst.

“We can’t add another person to this building right now,” said Siem. “Just about every agency around us and most in the metro here have these services that we can’t currently accommodate. A crime analyst is something we wouldn’t have space for right now.”

That’s why there’s a push to expand the current building by about 20 thousand square feet. It would include a new training room and office space, but the biggest portion of that would be more garage space.
