Pete Byrne, half of '80s new wave group Naked Eyes, has died

Byrne was the surviving member of the duo after his musical collaborator, Rob Fisher, died of cancer in 1999.

WASHINGTON — Pete Byrne, who was one-half of the '80s new wave group Naked Eyes, has died. He was 74.

Byrne's death was confirmed on the Naked Eyes' website, bringing an end to a pop duo whose iconic songs remain some of the most prolific soundtracks of the 80s.

Byrne died Monday, Sept. 21 in California after a brief illness, according to the site.

Rob Fisher, who was the other half of Naked Eyes, died in 1999 at 42 after suffering from cancer. While Naked Eyes disbanded in 1984, Byrne began revisiting the group's music in the 2000s, touring and releasing live albums.
