New Minnesota task force targets domestic violence policy reform

A new Minnesota task force is starting work on a statewide plan to better respond to, track and prevent domestic violence.

The first statewide meeting happened Tuesday and brought together law enforcement, representatives from various levels of the criminal justice system, survivors and victims advocates. The group of about 30 experts is working toward a plan that lawmakers could turn into statewide policy.

Rep. Kelly Moller, DFL-Shoreview, helped create the Task Force on Improving Responses to Domestic Violence Crimes during the legislative session earlier this year.

“I was frankly just tired of seeing more victims in the news … and the system, frankly, failed those victims,” said Rep. Moller.
