SHINGOBEE TOWNSHIP, Minn. (FOX 9) - A motorcyclist died Thursday after hitting a cable barrier and being run over by a semi-truck on a northern Minnesota highway.

What we know:
The crash happened just before 4 p.m. on southbound Highway 371 near milepost 86 in Shingobee Township, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
The motorcyclist was heading south on Highway 371 when the semi driver made a sudden maneuver onto the right shoulder. The motorcyclist then struck the cable barrier, and he was run over by the rear of the semi, according to the State Patrol.
The 30-year-old motorcyclist from Vadnais Heights died in the crash while the 33-year-old semi-truck driver from Pennsylvania was not injured.
What we don't know:
It is not clear what caused the semi driver to make the sudden maneuver onto the right shoulder. The State Patrol said alcohol was not considered a factor in the crash.
