A Monticello pastor and his child are dead after a crash in South Dakota last week that left his pregnant wife seriously injured.
South Dakota Highway Patrol said around 2 p.m. on Oct. 12, a Honda Odyssey was heading eastbound on Interstate 90 near mile marker 292 when a wheel came off a stock trailer being pulled in the westbound lanes, according to a report from the department.
The wheel crossed the median and hit the Honda, breaking the windshield and tearing through the car’s roof, according to a fundraiser for the family. Highway Patrol said 31-year-old Stephen Fletcher Clayton, of Monticello, and his 3-year-old son were killed.
Katie Jayne Clayton, 24, and an 11-month-old baby were injured in the crash; Katie’s injuries are considered serious, while the infant’s injuries were minor. They were all wearing seat belts, Highway Patrol added.
