Minnesota State launches systemwide review amid financial pressures

Minnesota State said it is starting a systemwide assessment as financial and enrollment pressures grow across its colleges and universities.

In a memo on Monday, Chancellor Scott Olson revealed that Minnesota State launched a “strategic realignment” to address long-term financial and academic sustainability.

Olson said Minnesota State has seen enrollment growth in recent years, but that growth has not produced the same level of revenue it did in the past. He cited rising costs and inflation as pressures, as state support remains constrained.

Minnesota State said that when financial audits are finalized by November 1, 4 institutions are expected to trigger a “financial warning.”
