Minnesota reading scores get a reset: What parents need to know

“It’s a pretty significant shift over the last 10 years,” said Josh Crosson. “It’s a good move, but that also means that the data is going to be skewed.”

On September 30th, we’ll find out how well Minnesota kids are reading, but we won’t know if that’s any better than last year. 

The Minnesota Department of Education will be releasing this last year’s state assessment results on Wednesday.

There will be two changes you need to know about – the terms they’ll be using to report how well your child did and a brand new reading test.

“The 2020 ELA standards…did change enough that the assessment would warrant new baselining,” said Jennifer Dugan with the Minnesota Department of Education.
