Minnesotans shopping for health insurance could face higher costs next year, with insurers proposing double-digit average rate increases for the individual market as open enrollment approaches.
The Minnesota Department of Commerce said proposed average rate increases for 2027 range from 10% to 13% for insurers returning to Minnesota’s individual market. But state regulators caution those percentages do not necessarily represent how much an individual consumer will ultimately pay.
“Rates aren’t what you pay,” Minnesota Department of Commerce Temporary Commissioner Julia Dreier said. “These are like the base information, and what people end up paying can vary a lot depending on where they live around the state, how old they are, and also if they’re eligible for any sort of tax credits.”
