Minnesota AG settles food fraud case for $18.5 million

The Minnesota Attorney General’s Office reached an $18.5 million settlement with nonprofit Partners in Nutrition (PIN) after a civil lawsuit accused the organization of making false statements to obtain millions of dollars from a federal child nutrition program.

Attorney General Keith Ellison announced the settlement Thursday, saying the nonprofit knowingly defrauded Minnesota out of millions of dollars in federal child nutrition funds during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

The allegations closely mirror the actions of another nonprofit, Feeding Our Future, which was at the center of a $250 million federal fraud case involving nearly 80 defendants. Some of those who have been convicted operated food sites under the sponsorship of both nonprofits during the COVID-19 pandemic.
