The start of a new season also marks the beginning of a new chapter for Minnesota women’s hockey.
Greg May, a former assistant under longtime coach Brad Frost, is entering his first season as the Gophers’ head coach. While the title may have changed, May said his familiarity with the program has helped ease the transition.
“It’s been awesome, honestly,” May said. “It’s easy right now. We haven’t played a game. We’re undefeated. We’re 0-0.”
May takes over a program with national championship expectations, but one facing a different challenge after the departure of star forward Abbey Murphy. Replacing her production, he said, won’t fall on a single player.
“We’ve got to try to find ways to manufacture offense by committee this year,” May said. “It’s not going to be one person that fills those shoes by any means...
