Minneapolis tax board approves a maximum 11.87% tax levy increase, residents express mixed reactions

MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis residents and businesses are likely to face higher property tax bills after a city board approved a maximum 11.87% tax levy increase. 

The increase comes as residents and business owners are already dealing with rising costs and the effects of inflation. Along Bde Maka Ska, residents had mixed reactions to the proposed increase.

“I think if they go to things that are important, like parks or public infrastructure or youth programs, I think that’s probably a good thing,” Flynn Opatz, a Minneapolis resident, said.

“Sounds like a reasonable price to pay for a city that’s livable,” William Farrell said.
