A Wisconsin man was killed Friday after his SUV left the road and hit a tree.
The St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office says it happened around 7:09 a.m. in a residential neighborhood in the Village of Roberts, which is about 15 minutes east of Hudson.
The press release says that the driver, identified as 41-year-old Matthew Drinkwine, from Roberts, was not breathing when first responders arrived. They tried to save his life, but could not.
Drinkwine was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, the sheriff’s office noted.
His death is the fifth traffic death in St. Croix County in 2026.
