Judges hear motions in 2 federal cases concerning Minnesota transgender athlete policies

The legal battle over Minnesota’s transgender athlete policies continues in federal court on Monday, as judges consider motions in two cases where the plaintiffs claim the state violated Title IX.

Female Athletes United brought the first case; the group sued Attorney General Keith Ellison, the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL), the Anoka-Hennepin School District, and others in May 2025, alleging the state’s policy allowing transgender athletes in girls’ sports violates Title IX.
