A federal judge in Texas will hear arguments next week on whether to grant Minnesota’s request for the courts to force the extradition of a federal immigration agent who is criminally charged in Hennepin County.
The hearing, set for Tuesday, comes as the 90-day deadline draws nearer for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent Christian Castro’s release from custody in Cameron County, Texas.
Castro, 52, is charged with four counts of second-degree assault and one count of falsely reporting a crime in connection with the nonfatal shooting of Julio Sosa-Celis on Jan. 14 in Minneapolis.
