Japan develops robot-only 'ambulance' to take away damaged bots

Despite being touted as an ambulance equivalent, the van is essentially a mobile repair shop.

WASHINGTON — A new type of ambulance is expected to hit the streets of Japan soon, designed not for human passengers, but robots. 

Designed by Japanese IT giant GMO Internet Group, the ambulance is a van that carries engineers, repair equipment, replacement parts and a spare robot for on-site swaps. 

“The humanoid 'ambulance' carries the replacement humanoid to the site and replaces it with the damaged humanoid,” said Shota Takizawa, an engineer at GMO Air.
