‘It’s devastating’: Hoffmans speak out as Vance Boelter returns to court for state charges

Vance Boelter, the man convicted federally in the deadly attack on Minnesota lawmakers last summer, was back in court on Friday for state charges.

This comes two months after Boelter was sentenced in federal court to back-to-back life sentences plus 40 years for the murders of House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, and the attempted murders of Sen. John Hoffman, his wife, Yvette, and his daughter, Hope.

John and Yvette spoke to reporters outside the courtroom on Friday, calling the court proceedings “retraumatizing.”

“It’s a revictimization of our families. To hear blatant lies, I have no words, really,” Yvette said. “It’s devastating.”
