An Isanti County family is planning to take the county to court after the home’s value rose sharply, and they say the taxes are becoming unaffordable.
Steve Reinke helped his son Scott build a one-bedroom home in 2015 for just over $130,000, including the land and materials. The latest county valuation now lists the property at just over $484,000.
“And we built it to keep the costs down because it was all he could afford. Now it’s getting to the point where they’re taxing him out of it,” Steve Reinke said.
“When we went to try to sit down with them, they passed us over another sheet that they’re going to raise it to 484 in ’27,” Reinke said.
Reinke said the taxes are now nearly as high as the home payment. He also said the family does not know why the valuation rose so much so fast.
