How Eden Prairie officials came up with a proposed 2.9% levy rate

Brandy Murdoch loves working on projects at her Eden Prairie home, but she’s not a fan of rising property taxes.

“We moved from Idaho, and our taxes were half of what they are here,” Murdoch says. “So, it was a sticker shock.”

But in 2027, she and other homeowners here might see some relief.

That’s because city leaders have approved a proposed levy increase of 2.9%, a rate they say is the lowest in the metro.

Other Minnesota communities are proposing higher rates: Dakota County is considering between 16% and 21%.

Minneapolis is looking at a 11.9% rate— St. Paul, 6.8%.

In the metro suburbs, Plymouth is eyeing a 3.9% rate, Minnetonka a 6.8% rate, and Apple Valley, 8.9%.
