SAXON, Wis. — Some homes in a northern Wisconsin town were evacuated Tuesday after an unoccupied semi rolled into an open excavation site and struck a gas line.
The Iron County Sheriff's Office said the evacuations were a precaution, but said that hazmat teams responded because natural gas liquids (NGLs) were released. The incident occurred at around 10 a.m. Tuesday at a site on a Line 5 valve project near Sitan Road in the Town of Saxon.
