Hennepin County Library prepares to cut hours, make changes amid budget woes

PLYMOUTH, Minnesota — Hennepin County Library is preparing for changes in 2027 to address budget concerns, including cutting hours. 

While the changes are part of the library system's requested budget and are not yet final, HCL alerted patrons earlier this month about the proposed reduced hours. 

"We love the library. It's a fun place to come and get some energy out, and you can check out as many books as you want. We'll check out like 30 at a time, honestly," said Morganne Dolan, who visits the Plymouth Library with her two daughters about twice a week. 

Open hours would decrease by about 7% across the system, or about 140 hours per week.
