Former Timberwolves CEO & President Bob Stein said the transition of majority ownership from Marc Lore to investor Marc Stad is less significant than the franchise’s ongoing need for a new arena.
“I don’t think it changes it much,” Stein said of the ownership shift. “I don’t think that adding a higher level of ownership for someone who really isn’t integral to the community makes much difference.”
Stein said the Timberwolves and Lynx still face the same long-term challenge of replacing or upgrading Target Center to maximize revenue.
“Target Center is the oldest building in the NBA now other than Madison Square Garden,” Stein said. “I would expect that they’ll be looking for support in developing something that does let them maximize the revenue.”
