Former Minneapolis police chief opens up about Annunciation shooting

It’s been one year since the shooting at Annunciation Church in south Minneapolis, and 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS is hearing from those who were there that day.

Former Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara spoke with 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS Anchor Kevin Doran about how the tragedy affected him personally and professionally.

The first time O’Hara was inside the church was 20 minutes after the shootings.

O’Hara: “Went into the church and I saw the gifts. As a Catholic, we call it the gifts in the back of the church, the wine, and the hosts. And then I saw the, the, you know there was blood, and there was you know the the two children who were killed. And it was just, all of that to me, just by that point, was a little overwhelming.”

Doran: “Was it overwhelming as the police chief, as a Catholic, as a human being?”
