Eichorn defense calls prosecution request for 5-year sentence ‘unwarranted’

Defense attorneys for former state Sen. Justin Eichorn objected to the U.S. government’s proposed five-year prison sentence, calling such a punishment “unwarranted.” The Grand Rapids Republican pleaded guilty in May to a felony charge stemming from his arrest in a child sex sting last year.

Charging documents state Eichorn had messaged an undercover Bloomington police officer multiple times, requesting risqué photos and eventually arranging to meet for sex, all while under the belief he was talking with a 17-year-old girl.
