DOJ sues Minnesota over 30-day gun purchase waiting period

The U.S. Department of Justice has sued Minneapolis, St. Paul, and Minnesota over the state’s 30-day waiting period for purchasing a firearm.

On Thursday, the DOJ filed a lawsuit against the three parties, alleging the waiting period for Minnesotans to get a gun violates the Second Amendment.

To obtain a gun in Minnesota, by law residents must apply for a transferee permit through their local police department or sheriff’s office. The agency then has 30 days to approve the permit to purchase.
