Brief lockdown at school in Blaine due to suspect in the area

On Tuesday afternoon, students who were outside at Westwood Intermediate and Middle School were brought into the building, and the doors were secured at the request of law enforcement.

Blaine police said that a man they were trying to arrest rode away from them on a bicycle and through school property.

The man was quickly arrested after leaving school grounds, police said. The school added that the situation was resolved in a few minutes and there was no disruption to the school day.

The school principal sent an email to parents letting them know in case students saw the police squads near the school.
