Officials said the 300-pound black bear entered an unlocked car, destroyed the vehicle and died.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Colorado wildlife officials are asking the public to keep vehicles locked and windows closed as bear activity increases in the state.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife said a large black bear was found dead Monday, Aug. 17 in Colorado Springs, which is approximately 70 miles south of Denver.

Officials said the 300-pound black bear entered an unlocked car, destroyed the vehicle and died. The bear went undiscovered for days in the heat.
