BCA: Fergus Falls officer fatally shot man after 9-hour standoff

State officials released the name Wednesday of the Fergus Falls officer who shot and killed a Battle Lake man last weekend during an hours-long standoff.

The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) said Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a home on the 30000 block of Twin Lakes Road in rural Battle Lake just before 6 p.m. on Sept. 25 after a family member stopped at the home to check on a relative, later identified as 39-year-old Christopher Olson.

The BCA said Olson answered the door armed with a shotgun and attacked the family member before reentering the home and barricading himself inside.
