Pro Football Hall of Famer Larry Fitzgerald Jr. was overwhelmed with emotion Friday night as he returned to the Academy of Holy Angels, where the school honored one of its most accomplished alumni by naming the football field after him.
Standing in the halls he walked as a student 25 years ago, Fitzgerald reflected on the relationships, lessons and community that helped shape him long before he became one of the most productive wide receivers in NFL history.
“I came here my sophomore year,” Fitzgerald said. “They accepted me and took me in and made me feel as though I was one of their own from the very beginning, and that feeling has never stopped 25 years later.”
Fitzgerald Jr. said the day became emotional as soon as he arrived on campus.
