St. Michael leaders say existing homeowners are not expected to see a city property tax increase as the fast-growing city adds new residents.
The city expects to add around 1,000 new residents this year. City Administrator Steve Bot said the growth is helping expand the city’s tax base.
Bot said the average homeowner with a house valued at $430,000 is estimated to pay $1,092 this year in city property taxes, the same rate as last year. He also said St. Michael saves money through federal and state grants.
The city also does not have its own police department and instead pays the Wright County Sheriff’s Office just over $1 million a year for full-time patrol. He said deputies work out of a satellite office at City Hall.
