94-year-old Oregon hospice patient gets one final flight

Air Force veteran Pete Woolly has loved airplanes for most of his life. With help from his care team, he got one more chance to take to the skies.

HOOD RIVER, Ore. — There is a little work involved in getting Pete Woolly out of the transport van that brought him to Hood River, Oregon, on Wednesday. The door slides open, a ramp slides down and a walker helps get the 94-year-old Air Force veteran out of the van.

"I'm thrilled beyond words," Woolly said with a hint of sarcasm and a hidden smile.

Underneath that sarcasm and dry wit, Woolly was looking forward to what was coming next. His passion for flying in an airplane was about to take flight.

“I don’t want my hairpiece to fall off,” Woolly said.
