Two grandparents and two grandchildren were on board the plane when it went down, according to reports.

WASHINGTON — A search was underway on Monday for an American family after their small plane apparently crashed off the Bahamas coast.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force said in a news release that they received a report about 2:20 p.m. Monday for a PA-34 Piper five-seater aircraft that might have gone down off the coast of Red Bays, North Andros.
