2026 Minnesota test scores: Fewer than half of students proficient in reading and math

Fewer than half of Minnesota students met state standards in reading and math on the latest statewide assessments.

The Minnesota Department of Education released Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment results Wednesday. The scores showed that fewer than half of students are proficient in reading and math in 2026.

For reading, about 49% of students are proficient. State leaders noted this year’s assessments are based on “new rigorous standards.” The department said the new reading test means results can’t be compared to previous versions.
