10-year-old border collie found 1,000 miles from home in North Carolina

GREENSBORO, N.C. — For Rio, getting lost is nothing new.

His owner, Melissa Burris, took him in just over a year ago and said he's an escape artist. He often gets out under the fence that surrounds their 5 acres in Oklahoma and finds his way to their local gas station and Dollar General.

Rio went missing after only being left alone for two minutes. This time, he ended up farther from home than ever before.

“Just in that split second, he went under the fence and was gone," Burris said. "And so I went and checked his normal spots, and he wasn't there.”
