1 dead after utility pole falls on car, starts fire in Hopkins

One person is dead after a utility pole fell onto a car and started a fire in Hopkins on Sunday.

The Hopkins police and fire departments said their crews responded to the 300 block of Blake Road North, where a utility pole fell onto a car.

Hopkins officials said the car caught on fire, resulting in the death of the person inside. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will release the name at a later time.

A 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS photographer also saw Xcel Energy responding to the scene at around 6 p.m.
