Will Waymo have to hire drivers? Minneapolis council members propose new robotaxi rules

MINNEAPOLIS — You may have already seen driverless Waymos rolling through Minneapolis. 

The robotaxi company started the groundwork to offer rides in the city back in November 2025. Before it is fully operational, Minneapolis City Council members proposed an ordinance Wednesday to regulate the rollout. 

Robin Wonsley, Ward 2 Council member, coauthored the "Workers Drive Minneapolis" ordinance and spoke about it Wednesday.
