Millions will witness a solar eclipse over Europe this week, but you don't have to miss it if you're in North America. Here's what to know.

WASHINGTON — Millions of people will experience a total solar eclipse over parts of Europe this week. While North America will miss the main event, there are still plenty of ways to watch the cosmic show.

Totality will begin near the North Pole, then streak southward across Greenland, Iceland, Spain and a patch of Portugal.

Daytime darkness won’t last more than a couple of minutes at best — compared with North America’s epic 2024 eclipse — but it is continental Europe's first encounter with totality since 1999.
