KSTP Sports’ Darren ‘Doogie’ Wolfson caught up with Arden Hills native and former Gophers outfielder Brett Bateman after he made his MLB debut last week with the Toronto Blue Jays.
The Blue Jays acquired minor leaguers Bateman and Ty Southisene in a trade two weeks ago with the Cubs for pitcher Kevin Gausman. Bateman was an eighth-round pick by Chicago in the 2023 amateur draft.
Toronto called him up last week and he made his major league debut on Friday night in Philadelphia. He had a double vs. Phillies elite starter Zack Wheeler in his first at-bat.
Bateman finished 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI in the Blue Jays’ 5-3 win over the Red Sox on Tuesday.

Bateman has been a fixture for Toronto in center field, starting daily since being called up.
